State Conventions

State Conventions serve as a vital opportunity for State Chairs to promote the Elks Drug Awareness Program (DAP) at the state level. These conventions bring together lodge leaders, volunteers, and members, providing a platform to educate, engage, and expand DAP initiatives across the state.

As a State Chair, it is your responsibility to organize DAP-related activities, ensuring that members leave with a greater understanding of the program’s mission and impact.

One of the primary objectives at a state convention is training Lodge Chairs and other key volunteers.

  • New and returning Lodge Chairs receive guidance on implementing DAP initiatives at the local level.
  • Sessions may include presentations, panel discussions, and hands-on workshops.
  • State Chairs should provide DAP-approved materials, event planning strategies, and outreach best practices.

A booth at the state convention is an excellent way to engage attendees and provide valuable resources.

  • Display DAP-approved materials for Lodge Chairs and members to take back to their communities.

  • Educate members about upcoming events, contests, and initiatives.

  • Answer questions and help attendees understand their role in the program.

  • Encourage sign-ups for volunteers, partnerships, and future training sessions.

📍 State Chairs should ensure the booth is well-staffed, organized, and inviting throughout the convention.

State conventions are also a great time to recognize outstanding contributions to the Elks Drug Awareness Program.

  • Announce winners of state-level contests and awards.

  • Recognize volunteers and members who have made a significant impact.

  • Share important program updates and upcoming initiatives.

Celebrating achievements encourages participation and inspires more members to get involved.

In addition to running a booth and training workshops, State Chairs should also organize a DAP-focused presentation or panel.

  • Invite guest speakers, local law enforcement, or prevention specialists to discuss drug awareness efforts.

  • Present videos, success stories, or impactful testimonials.

  • Host interactive discussions on challenges and solutions in drug prevention.

A well-prepared session engages members, raises awareness, and strengthens the state-wide impact of the Elks DAP.

To ensure a successful event, State Chairs should:

✅ Plan DAP workshops and training well in advance.

✅ Secure booth materials, handouts, and promotional items.

✅ Coordinate guest speakers or panelists for presentations.

✅ Communicate with Lodge Chairs and volunteers to encourage participation.
